The first congress of the Allergy Society of Ghana was held on the 29th and 30th of May 2025 at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, Accra. 

The programme was held with major funding from the Clemens von Pirquet Foundation, and organisational support from UCT African Paediatric Fellowship Program and the Division of Paediatric Allergy, University of Cape Town. The congress, which was on the theme ‘Allergy Diagnosis and Management: Getting the basics right’, saw over 80 healthcare professionals participating. Majority were medical doctors (Specialists and Residents from the various specialties),  and General practitioners. There were a few nurses (Nurse specialists and General nurses), and  Physician assistants. The majority were based in the capital city Accra, with some travelling from other regions of the country. 

Dr Lawrence Ofori-Boadu, Director, Institutional Care Division (ICD) of the Ghana Health Service(GHS), represented Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, the Director- General of the GHS, as the Guest of Honour. 

There were very insightful lectures by all speakers: Representatives of CvP (the President of CvP Prof. Jonathan O’B Hourihane, and the Secretary of CvP  Prof Philippe Eigenmann); Prof  Mike Levin represented the Division of Paediatric Allergology, University of Cape Town; Dr. Olatunde Odusote (APFP alumnus, as well as the President of the Allergy and Clinical Immunology Society of Nigeria); Dr. Hilary Andoh (President of the Allergy Society of Ghana); Dr Sandra Kwarteng Owusu (Paediatric Pulmonologist); and Dr Kafui Searyoh (Endoscopic Sinus Surgeon). The workshop sessions were very interactive and led by the speakers as well as Dr. Grace Amoo-Quaye (ENT Surgeon), and Dr. Mark-Young Seadey (Dermatologist). Topics included Anaphylaxis, Food allergy, Atopic dermatitis, Allergic rhinitis and Asthma among others.

The moderators for the programme were Dr. Grace Amoo-Quaye, Dr. Ama Bema Osei-Wusu, and Dr. Abigail Owusu-Ansah. The two-day congress was a success, with participants expressing their satisfaction with the organisation and the content of the topics discussed as well as the workshops.
